What You Should Do Before a Residential Pest Control Treatment

Pest control involves the management or regulation of pests.  Pests cause detrimental effects on property and health, such as itching, rashes, food poisoning, property damage and so on. The most common pests include rodents, carpenter ants, wasps and bed bugs. Your choice on the residential pest control method you use will depend on the type of pest you are dealing with and the severity of the infestation. However, you should conduct the following practices before undertaking a residential pest control treatment.

1. Ask questions

You may have many questions about the process if you are hiring a specialist for the task.  Proper preparation for the pest control process will depend on the knowledge you have regarding the process. You should ask the professionals about their experience to gauge their expertise. You should also ask them if they have an operating license. Know the type of pesticides that they will use as well as their side-effects.  The technicians should tell you why they will use a given pesticide and inform you of all of the areas of your home that will need treatment.

2. Remove all items

If you have a severe infestation, it's a good idea to remove all of the items from your house to create space and allow easy access to pest-infested areas. It is prudent to remove all appliances and furniture to prevent damage from chemical sprays and spills. Proceed to remove toiletries, clothes, jewellery, toys and makeup. Remove any plants in the house since the pesticides may have effects on them. Ensure any bedding materials and other linens are removed and sealed tightly. Sealing food and fabrics in plastic is a good idea if you want to supplement the pest control treatment. Ensure your premise is neat and tidy to curb the pests' source of food.

3. People and pets

Pets are highly sensitive to the pesticides used in residential pest control services. Ensure your pets are outdoors or with your neighbour during the treatment process. You should also cover your aquarium tightly using plastic and ensure the fish have enough food until completion of the process. Turn off the aquarium air pumps since they will suck the air-borne chemicals into the water. Take particular precaution if your family member is sick, pregnant, asthmatic or below one year of age. Inform the pest control service about the health condition of occupants.

Pests cause a plethora of complications and getting rid of them creates a malady-free environment. Regular residential pest control will also give you a better place to reside. Itching and allergies occur due to the presence of fleas, spiders and bedbugs in your home. Save your family from these health problems by eliminating pests from your property.
